Home Science faculty is dedicated to scientific knowledge and applications / practices of various parameters involved in home. ‘Home’, implies human considerations. Home Science is also named as ‘Life Science’ in some Indian Universities. It inseparably incorporates sciences & humanities. The term, ‘Humanities’ is defined as’ learning or literature concerned with human culture’. Therefore, Home Science cannot be learnt or taught without incorporating, knowledge about Humanities.
In modern era and with human empowerment as a major objective; Home science is learnt & taught by incorporating economical and commerce / management oriented approach. Society has people belonging to different economical strata. All the 05 Core subjects in home science are taught with economical / commerce/ management related considerations and implications.
Consequently, Home Science inseparably incorporates Science & Technology, Humanities and Commerce. Hence Home Science is a perfect ‘Interdisciplinary’ faculty.

Home Science faculty has following subjects.
All these subjects are directly or indirectly related to human life, health, art, culture, commerce and management etc; thereby having multi disciplinary inter-relations and applications.
Involves scientific, cultural, commercial and management oriented ; considerations and implications. It is linked with human development & physiology too. Nutritional management involves communication skills & financial management. Hence it involves Science & Technology, Humanities and Economics / Commerce.
Related to scientific aspects of the yarn or cloth, art and culture in the communities, health related considerations and commercial aspects of its management. Hence involve Science & Technology & Humanities.
These are directly linked to food & nutrition as well as clothing considerations, along with financial as well as commercial aspects which cannot be sidelined. It is Science & Technology.
This subject is related to physical, functional, psychological and social development of a person. Therefore it involves science, language & communication skills, life skills & empowerment. Hence it is Science & Humanities.
Are associated with; art & culture, languages, various skills and scientific implementations of personal or community needs. Hence the subject involves Science & Humanities.
In Home Science faculty this subject is linked to knowledge acquisition, communication skills and methods, compilation & analysis of scientific data etc. Hence it is Science.
This subject is related to nutrition, human development etc which in turn have inter disciplinary connection. Hence it is Science.
These are inclusive of science, culture, social customs or beliefs, health related issues in human life etc. Hence it is Science & Humanities.

The aforementioned facts very clearly and irrefutably make clear; the interdisciplinary status and ramifications of subjects in Home Science; both in knowledge and practical aspects.
