Introduction

India is the country with diversity and inequalities.In the past,the social system prevailing in India unconsciously created the barriers for the depressed classes.But after independence, India adopted the all-inclusive and welfare state policy.The Indian constitution always protects the rights of the weaker section. India framed the different policies and laws for the upliftment of this deprived class. U.G.C ,being the Government body,directed all the Universities and colleges to establish Equal Opportunity Cell to assist the background class students, minority students, Divgangas

Smt.R.D.G College for Women Akola is established on the ideals of Founder President Mataji Smt.Radhadevi Goenka .Mataji who devoted her life for the wellfare of weaker part of society.She wrote Nari Samsaya to raise voice against the injustice to women in the society. Mataji’s policy of women empowerment can be seen through the various practices by the college authorities.

There are many students from the different social, economic backgrounds. But the Principal and staff are quite careful about the weaker section of the society. In the process of development, the students from weaker sections should not be lagged behind,for the support of such students the college has established Equal Opportunity Cell(EOC).The college has unbiased approach to such students. EOC ,under the guidance of President and Principal, is always ready to work hard for such groups.

Shri Diliprajji Goenka, President BSS,is careful to implement the different types of courses for the welfare of the weaker section.He guides the staff regarding the welfare of weaker section.

Principal Dr.Charushila Rumale Madam is always conscious to implement the various schemes and scholarships prescribed for the students from weaker section. She always reviews the proper working of the cell.

Objectives

  • To create awareness and provide guidance about various welfare schemes, programs ,fellowships,stipends offered by the central, state governments for the welfare for the students belonging background categories,and minority.
  • To organize the various seminars, workshops, events to increase social inclusion.
  • To provide support and assist students belonging to these and create barrier-free access to various services.
  • To establish coordination with the government and other agencies organizations to mobilize academic and financial resources to provide assistance to the students of disadvantaged groups.
  • To organize periodic meetings to monitor the progress of different schemes.
  • To raise awareness of the college about the problems of SC,ST and other disadvantaged groups.

Target Group

The EOC works for affirmative action for the weaker sections such as students from SC, ST, OBC ,and students from religious and linguistic minorities, PWD (Divyangs).
